Cabriole
The Bas-Relief Project
Cabriole is a series of nude dancing female figures created through the exploration of the antique artistic technique of bas-relief. The work is sculptures made on canvas, one-half of the actual proportion of a dancing figure is seen in her third dimension of depth. Bas-relief is a form of sculpture closely related to painting; the dilemma grows when this sculpture is made with pure oil paint. These series were created using only oil painting, modeling the figures layer by layer on the canvas.
